Somewhere I Belong (bass) - tabbed by Astat Tuning: Bb Eb Ab Db Gb (Blended clean DI and overdriven amp tone) *Note* The bass on this track is an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5, in single coil mode (second position on the 3-way switch). This is one of Phoenix's better bass performances on Meteora, lots of cool little fills and stuff all over the place. Not only is this on a 5-string, it's also tuned down half a step, so you'll need some extra-heavy strings if you want to retain clarity on those low Bb notes! Sorry about how ridiculously spaced-out this tab is, I had to make it this way because there's a spot in the last chorus where Phoenix plays a couple 32nd notes, so I had to space the rest of the tab accordingly. A few things to watch out for: The fills at the end of both verses are different, so make sure not to mix them up. Phoenix makes one mistake at the very beginning of the bridge and only plays the low Bb note once, so I've tabbed it the way it appears on the recording. The fills in the bridge are pretty simple, just watch out for the really drawn-out slides (which I've noted in parentheses), the slides always begin at the spot I've marked them, and they generally last until you land on the following note. The high-register fill between the 10th and 14th frets during the last chorus is the toughest thing in the song, lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs in there, and the slide leading into it is pretty tough to time correctly as well.
