Runaway (bass) - tabbed by Astat Bass 1 - B E A D G (Slightly overdriven) Bass 2 - B E A D G (Blended clean DI and overdriven amp tone) *Note* The bass on this track is an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5, in single coil mode (second position on the 3-way switch). The guitar on this one is done with a 7-string, and the bass follows suit with a 5-string. The bass is split between a clean DI/distorted amp sound as usual, and there are a few spots in this one where the distorted track is muted (the short bit before the first verse and the quieter sections of the bridge). There are a lot of small variations on the intro/chorus riff, so keep an eye out for those. The bass really comes through nice and clear during the verses, which is always nice to hear (there are a few variations in the verses too!). The quiet part of the bridge is really interesting, I've tried to transcribe it as a slide up to the 5th fret followed by a chromatic walk-down, but the general sound of the part is more along the lines of "slide up and down while picking and don't worry about the notes too much." During the heavier sections of the bridge, note how the bass jumps up an octave for the sustained C notes. During the last chorus/outro, there's a cool interplay between the bass and the guitar, as the guitar jumps up an octave for the chorus while the bass stays the same, so they're two octaves apart. Then for the first half of the outro, the guitar jumps back down to its normal register while the bass jumps up an octave, so they're playing in unison! The bass drops back down to its regular register for the last two lines, and the muted notes that the guitar plays at the end of the song are just open low B notes on the bass. Fun song!
