Scott Koziol played bass on the recording of this song (he also appeared in the music video and toured with Linkin Park until sometime in October of 2000, when Phoenix rejoined the band). While I can't be sure what he used in the studio, Scott has a particular Sadowsky bass that seems to be his go-to instrument for 4-string stuff (he used it for all the 4-string songs in the live set during his time with LP, while he used a Stingray for the 5-string songs). I think Phoenix plays this slightly differently live, I'm pretty sure he plays all the muted strums that the guitars play during the bridge, but Scott doesn't on the album version. Some of the other muted strums played by the guitars are also played as fretted notes at the first fret by the bass. Also, Scott doesn't do the muted strums during the verse/chorus (again, like the guitars do), but Phoenix does. Generally speaking, the fretting-hand muting throughout the song is kind of sloppy, you can still hear a lot of fret buzz after the notes are cut off in a lot of places, and there are a few spots where you can consistenly hear subtle sliding noises during position shifts as well. I've transcribed these as accurately as I can here.
