Given Up (bass) - tabbed by Astat Tuning: D A D G (Slightly overdriven) *Note* The bass on this track is an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 4. The bassline totally dominates the verses of this song. It also plays an extremely important role in the overall sound of the full mix for a couple reasons. The first is that in the intro riff, while the guitars play the muted strums, Phoenix keeps strumming along at the second fret, which really keeps the tonal center in place. Also, in the chorus, while the guitars strum straight eighth notes, Phoenix more or less follows the rhythm of the bass and snare drums, which keeps things from sounding too choppy. A couple things to note, the 2nd fret notes on the A string at the end of the verses are played at the 9th fret on the low D live (or at least they are sometimes), and Phoenix makes a small mistake and misses one note in the last chorus on the studio recording, which is noted in the tab here.
