This song is an unusual one in that the guitar and bass are in different tunings - the guitar is just drop-tuned for the rhythm parts that require hitting a low Eb chord, but the bass is actually tuned down half a step from standard (watching Phoenix play this live confirms it, and the instances where sliding noises are audible on the album version indicates that the same is true here). The bass has a pretty typical blended DI/amp tone, although the amp track is almost all low-end frequencies, to the point that I think it might have been recorded through a cab with a separate woofer/tweeter and only the woofer was mic'd. Anyway, there are some very emphasized muted noises in some sections of this song, which I've marked with x's, while there are some other sections where the muting is more subtle, so I've put the x's in parentheses. Also watch out for the triplet rhythm right before the octave jump that appears at the end of a lot of sections. Leading out of the second chorus, the B notes are played at the 7th fret on the 4th string instead of the 2nd fret of the 3rd string, which kind of sets up the transition to the bridge/last chorus where everything is played on the bottom string except for the octave jumps. Overall the bass does a lot more than it probably sounds like it does when you first listen to this song!
