This song has the most interesting history of any on the Mall soundtrack - it originated as a demo called "Ammosick" all the way back during the Minutes to Midnight sessions! The song was actually fully recorded and mixed for Minutes to Midnight, as one of five album b-sides (the other four being No Roads Left, Across the Line, Blackbirds, and What We Don't Know). The original Minutes to Midnight-era recording is actually what's heard in the Mall film. Interestingly, the soundtrack uses an alternate version, with a different vocal track and slightly different mixing. The song is known to have been revisited during the A Thousand Suns sessions, so this second version is probably from that period. Not sure why different versions were used between the film and soundtrack, I almost wonder if it was an error...but anyway, as far as guitar playing goes, Guitar 1 is a backwards loop that more or less runs through the entire song, it only drops out for the last verse. Guitar 2 plays the little solo part in the middle, it's interestingly played all on one string, which results in a bunch of sliding noises between notes. Guitar 3 appears near the end, and is actually the same guitar heard at the end of "Jeff Makes Observations," with some slight differences. Nothing too crazy here.
