Use the bridge pickup unless otherwise noted. For such a heavy song, this one's actually pretty light on the guitar layering. Guitar 1 comes in from time to time with the EBow figure, Guitars 2 and 3 double each other on all the main rhythm parts, and Guitars 4 and 5 handle all the muted strums. You don't absolutely NEED an EBow to play Guitar 1's part, there are a couple ways to do it. One is to use some kind of pickup sustain system (for example, a guitar equipped with a Fernandes Sustainer, which Brad uses live on this song - the Sustaniac system is essentially the same thing as well), another is to use an overdrive/booster on top of your regular distortion to increase your sustain, or you can use a compressor pedal with the sustain/input gain turned way up. The last 2 options are VERY prone to feedback/unwanted noise though, so you'll need to have good muting technique to keep the other strings from vibrating. As far as what settings to use with the EBow, I've found that using the guitar's neck pickup with the volume knob rolled most of the way down produces the best tone, although I can't say for sure whether Brad used the neck or bridge pickup on the album recording (it honestly sounds more bridge-like to me). As far as playing the EBow part goes, I've noted all the slide/hammer-on/pull-off motions that Brad does when playing the song live, but you'll notice when the part loops back to the beginning I haven't marked a downward slide to the 5th fret, and I've put the 5th fret notes in parentheses every time after the first repeat of Guitar 1 in any given section. This is because the part is a loop of one repeat on the album rather than a continuous take, so the jump from the 12th fret to the 5th fret happens instantly every time the riff restarts. This is obviously pretty much impossible to do under normal playing circumstances (I guess you could do it with a two-handed tapping kind of thing if you're not using an EBow?), so that downward slide to the 5th fret is going to happen when you play the part, I just haven't written it in the tab because it's not a trait of the original recording. For all the muted strums in this song, you'll want to fret a powerchord at the 2nd fret with your index finger, and then lightly rest your middle and ring fingers on the strings to mute the sound. This way, you get the muted notes, but they still have a defined pitch to them (it's basically the equivalent of doing a palm mute with your fretting hand). For the little "half bar" at the end of the intro where Guitar 1 sustains by itself for a second, the note is actually cut off at the end of the previous line, what you're hearing afterwards is just the delay repeating, which I've noted in parentheses. Also, watch out for how quickly Guitar 1 cuts off at the very end of the song.
