This song is a fantastic intro, I've always felt that the full band instrumentals are a lot cooler than the instrumentals that are done almost entirely by Joe or Mike. Guitars 1 and 2 supply the high-pitched feedback that comes in while the drums are building up before the main section. I've notated this as a 3rd fret harmonic on the G string, which is a bit of a tough harmonic to get a lot of sustain out of, but it's probably the most reliable way of achieving the correct pitch. Realistically it's probably just some feedback generated off a sustained G octave at the 10th and 12th frets, or maybe something involving an EBow, but I wanted to notate the actual pitch of the feedback. Guitars 3 and 4 play the octave parts during the main section, Guitars 5 and 6 play the powerchords. The rhythm guitar panned to the right also plays two muted strums just before the end of the build-up, I know it's a little weird to see "Guitar 6" before Guitars 3 through 5 make an appearance, but this was one of those cases where it seemed to make more sense to number the guitar tracks this way instead of strictly going by chronological order. Pretty simple stuff, just watch out for the bent octave in Guitar 3 and 4's part. To do this, fret the octave and gradually bend both strings at the same time by curling your fingers downward (it's about a half step bend, and you bend the first octave, then hold the bend for the remaining ones). Since there really isn't a structure to this song (at least during the first minute or so), I've used time markers to label at what point in the song the guitar parts come in. Also, while Brad has always played this song on humbucker-equipped guitars live, that likely has to do with its transition directly into Given Up, which was traditonally played on a guitar with humbuckers. On the album version, the octave parts are definitely Strats. Note that the most recent revision to this tab has Guitars 5 and 6 double-tracked when they weren't labeled that way previously, and they also play the same rhythm as Guitars 3 and 4 rather than following the more syncopated rhythm that the drums and bass follow.
