12/29 - 2021 Wrapup

Posted on December 29, 2021 at 4:00 AM

Hey everybody! Hope your holidays are going well. In typical fashion, I've been absent for a while, but that's about to change, and I'll tell you why in a sec. First note though, I made the biggest update to the My Gear page in a long time. I bought a new amp recently, and I'm also in the process of MASSIVELY overhauling my effects rig (the changes listed reflect what it will look like when it's done, but that shouldn't take too long, provided supply chain issues don't leave me waiting months for stuff I ordered!). In short, I finally found a pedalboard that's big enough to fit everything I want on it, previously I was thinking I'd have to eventually build two boards to hold all my stuff. Yay for efficiency!

Anyway, on to my infrequent updates and why that's changing soon: As most of you know, I've been teaching guitar, bass, and keyboard lessons at a School of Rock franchise for the past three years. I've previously mentioned how much we've grown in that time, and it's now one of the largest schools of its kind in the United States. While that's a great thing overall, it's meant a large expansion in the number of our performance classes, which has meant a large expansion in the number of songs I've had to learn (on three different instruments!) in order to teach one-on-one lessons with the students in those classes. For our recent fall season, I had to learn setlists for TWENTY-SIX different groups. I spend a HUGE chunk of my free time learning songs. So much so, that it kind of burns out my desire to play a lot of music beyond that. I already play enough to make my fingers bleed as it is, why would I add even more to that, you know? So that's the long and short of why I haven't been posting new tabs or videos for nearly a year. BUT! As of next week, I'm actually moving into a new position at the school where I'll be handling a bunch of operations/administration-related stuff (in addition to being our on-site instrument repair guy), which will eat up so much time that logistically it made more sense to just have that be my full-time job rather than trying to balance it with teaching lessons. I love teaching, so it's a little bit of a bummer to have that taken off my plate, but I'm also really excited about my new role, and more importantly for you guys, that means no more spending hours upon hours every week working on lesson material that takes up time I'd otherwise be spending working on the site and recording/tabbing! My home studio is a bit of a mess right now since I haven't been using it much, but I'm going to get things up and running again over the next week-ish, and sometime in January, I fully expect to be back on a semi-regular posting schedule.

I'll keep you all posted if plans change, but for the moment, keep your eyes peeled for new content in the new year!
