11/24: Tab Updates/The Future, Part II

Posted on November 24, 2017 at 9:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey guys! Haven't thrown an update your way in a while, so allow me to catch you up on everything that's been going on since July...

Tabs-wise, I've done a few things lately, I just haven't posted individual updates on here as I've done them, so here's a list:
-One More Light tabs are done! Nobody Can Save Me, Sorry for Now, Halfway Right, and Sharp Edges are all posted.
-I made a major update to Rebellion, as I re-evaluated the way I'd tabbed it previously and decided to redo everything to be in the same Drop C tuning, rather than having some parts in Drop C and some in Drop D. Daron played all of the guitars on the recording, so it only makes sense that it would all be in the same tuning anyway.
-Pretty significant update to Lost in the Echo, as I completely failed to notate the auto-gating/"chopping" effects on some of the guitar parts previously. They're all accounted for now.
-Based on the "last updated" tag on the file, I apparently updated SOMETHING in my tab for Wretches and Kings a few weeks ago, but I can't figure out what it was! I'm thinking it was probably just fixing a typo/clarifying some stuff in the description, but see if you can notice a difference I guess?

In other news, I've also quietly updated some stuff on the My Gear page. I have a new Yamaha acoustic guitar and got rid of the Ovation I had for many years. I also have a Pedaltrain pedalboard now and I've redone my effects routing considerably (my old homemade board is now used for stuff I put in the effects loop, so I actually have a two-board setup at the moment!).

As for my plans of what to do next...first of all, I really need to get the rest of my photos migrated over from Photobucket. That's my top priority with the site, it's just stupidly tedious work. I also have several photos of new guitars that will be uploaded once all of the old stuff is moved over (most notably, I have a photo of a previously-unknown guitar from way back in 2004 that I think you guys will find pretty interesting!). I've also slacked off on taking photos of all of my gear for way too long, so I'll get around to doing that as well.

As far as future tabs/covers go, my primary goals with tabs right now are the Beta State/Ryan Giles songs from LPU 13, the remaining 3 songs from the High Rise EP Chester did with Stone Temple Pilots, and the rest of the Mall soundtrack. After that, I have several years of LPU songs to catch up on, and after THAT, I'll start the monumental task of completely redoing all of my live version tabs (the system I have for them right now is really convoluted and everything is outdated by about 4 years anyway). Covers-wise, I've finally got a place set up to record at my new apartment (the biggest delay I ran into was actually unpacking after I moved - I had NO IDEA where my LP CD collection was, so I couldn't rip songs to my computer to record along with!), but only for a few weeks, as my daughter is due to be born the first week of January, and I'm pretty sure the room I currently have all my gear set up in is going to turn into a nursery! I've got a few things I'm definitely planning on doing, and since I just wrapped up tabbing the last song on One More Light today, I think tomorrow's a good day to get back into recording mode!

8/16: A Tribute to Chester/The Future

Posted on August 16, 2017 at 10:25 PM Comments comments (4)

I apologize for not updating the site over the past few weeks...I'm sure you guys understand why. I've spent the majority of my time since July 20th working on this, as I felt like I had to do SOMETHING in honor of a guy who's been a huge part of my musical life. This is largely based on the 2017 live version of Leave Out All the Rest, with some additional elements from the studio version added back into the mix, along with an extended piano intro (from the "Ballad Medley" with Leave Out All the Rest, Shadow of the Day, and Iridescent), and an extended outro/guitar solo. I did everything on this - guitar, bass, and vocals, and all of the synths, piano, and drums were programmed in Stagelight. I wanted to make the video all about Chester, so I found a bunch of my favorite live photos of him from over the years and kept footage of me to a minimum. I hope you guys like it!

As for the future of both this website and my Youtube projects...I definitely plan to keep working on them to some extent. I'll at least finish getting all of the guitar photos migrated over to new hosting, and I'll continue updating the tabs archive periodically. With the very likely possibility that Linkin Park may be "done," it saddens me to think that this is a project that might one day be completely finished. I'm moving again at the end of the month, so I'm not in a rush to record more Youtube covers, but once I'm settled in at my new place, I'll consider it. Immersing myself in Linkin Park-related music is a lot more emotionally challenging and a lot less fun than it was a few weeks ago, so I'm not particularly excited to jump back into things at the moment (I always told myself this would be something I'd keep doing for as long as it' was fun for me). I anticipate that with time, I'll get back into it, but for now, I'm not going to emotionally torture myself just to post another guitar cover or whatever. I'll still be an active member of the community though, as the mutual support I've seen from the LP fan community over the past few weeks has been overwhelmingly helpful. If anybody needs someone to talk to, I'm more than willing to be there. You know where to find me!

Stay strong, everyone. We'll all get through this.

7/11: Photos Update/New Brad Guitars/Talking to Myself Tab

Posted on July 11, 2017 at 1:00 AM Comments comments (0)

I finished up all of the photo hosting updates for Brad's page yesterday! Glad to have that out of the way, as it was by far the page with the most photos on it. I've uploaded all of the photos for Mike's page to Facebook, and I'll be working on updating the linked photos on his page over the next few days.

Speaking of Brad, I also added two new guitars to his page. One is his new Martin acoustic that he's been using for performances of Sharp Edges, the other is an old Les Paul copy that he smashed as part of a magazine interview/photoshoot way back in 2002 or 2003. I remember seeing those photos YEARS ago and had been searching for them for a while, as it seemed like none of the fansites had them uploaded anywhere.

I also uploaded a tab for Talking to Myself a few days ago, I just didn't post about it at the time because I knew this photo update was going to be posted soon anyway. I'm working on Nobody Can Save Me next! As for recording, I've kind of put things on hold while I deal with this photo hosting thing, along with a host of other things (taking care of my pregnant wife, working up to 15 hours a day 3 or 4 days a week, planning a vacation at the end of August, searching for a new apartment and getting ready to move in September, trying to find time to get ready for my last semester of college...). Recording, mixing, filming, and editing one song is usually a 2-day process for me now, so it's hard to fit in around everything else. I still have a few things in the works though - I know I've been avoiding anything involving acoustic guitar parts lately because I've never been able to get the sound out of my Ovation that I want, but when I visit my family I'm going to see if I can record some stuff with my brother's guitar (he has a BEAUTIFUL old Taylor jumbo acoustic that sounds incredible), and maybe finally get stuff like The Messenger, The Little Things Give You Away, A Light That Never Comes, Talking to Myself, and Castle of Glass recorded in a way that I'm happy with. We'll see!

6/25 - Photo Hosting Update

Posted on June 25, 2017 at 3:20 AM Comments comments (1)

Just a quick update on the photo hosting situation - Instagram wasn't going to work out due to how convoluted the process of uploading photos from my computer to my iCloud account just to redownload them onto my phone and finally upload them to Instagram would be. For a simpler solution, I've decided to just upload all my images to a private album on Facebook and directly link to each photo. Same system as before with clickable thumbnails that open to larger images and such. I have to do the HTML coding for each image manually this time though, so it's a very time-consuming process. I'm slowly working my way through Brad's page right now, and I'll periodically let you guys know how I'm progressing. Should have everything moved over in the next few days. Good riddance, Photobucket.

Youtube Cover of the Week (6/19): Battle Symphony

I know I keep posting these late every week...my current work schedule basically has Tuesday and Wednesday as my "weekend," so I'm always strapped for time when it comes to actually meeting my intended upload schedule on ACTUAL weekends...but anyway, here's another song from the new album, and I had to split it across four videos to cover all of the parts!

Unfortunately this will probably be my last One More Light song for a little while, as the four songs I've covered account for the four I've tabbed! I have Talking to Myself figured out now (just haven't quite transcribed it all), but I'm still avoiding covering anything with acoustic guitar parts until I can buy a new one. I'm going to revisit at least a couple more older songs coming up here...Bleed it Out and Lost in the Echo in particular are a couple of the bigger ones I've been meaning to tackle.

As for the photo hosting situation, right now it's looking like I'm going to be using a new Instagram account specifically for this site and direct linking to the images after they're uploaded, assuming I don't run into any unforseen problems with that idea. I'll keep you guys posted with any updates.
