3/8: Tab Updates

Posted on March 8, 2018 at 4:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Before I forget to make note of it like I typically do, just updating you guys real quick on a couple tab changes:

Crawling - Made note that there's a string mute in two of the three pre-chorus harmonic sections, which necessitated changing the notation of that harmonic for the sake of keeping the tab aligned properly (further explanation in the tab description).

Battle Symphony - The multitracks for this song leaked rather unexpectedly, and it turns out I had a bunch of stuff wrong. This one's been almost completely redone.

I'm also currently working on refreshing all my Reanimation tabs, which shouldn't take too terribly long. Those might be lumped in with my next video update over the weekend.

Youtube Cover of the Week (3/5): Lying from You

Posted on March 5, 2018 at 3:30 AM Comments comments (0)

I've still been pretty busy with getting used to being a dad, so while I didn't do a true "cover of the week" the past couple weeks, I've been uploading "un-isolated" versions of songs I previously uploaded as isolated tracks every other day (this will continue for at least the next week, by the way - still a few more of those to do). I did upload one "new-ish" video on Friday though, which is an updated version of Lying from You. This reuses the majority of my guitar work from my previous video, but I edited in some changes to reflect the changes I made in the tab for that song after its Rock Band 4 multitracks surfaced:

I've already re-recorded one more song for next week (it's a partial re-record like this one, although a more substantial amount of it has been redone), and I have a few other songs that need some touching up, either due to tab updates I've made since my last video of a song, or because of tonal things that aren't to my liking (there's also one song I'm going to re-record just to play it on a different guitar than I did before!). I'm also trying to get something done for the Post Traumatic remix contest, so that may pop up in the near future too.

Youtube Update: Isolated Tracks

Posted on February 13, 2018 at 10:40 PM Comments comments (0)

I just wanted to address something regarding my Youtube channel moving forward: Since WMG has, by most accounts, been a bit more relaxed about copyright blocks lately, I'm going to be re-uploading videos I had previously uploaded as isolated tracks, with the music mixed in like I would typically do. I will still record two versions of each video and use the isolated version to avoid copyright blocks when necessary, but will otherwise not be posting isolated videos anymore. HOWEVER, I will be including download links to my isolated guitar tracks in the description for each video moving forward! I already did this for my A Place for My Head video from the other day, and I re-uploaded By Myself today as well. I plan on posting one of these re-uploads every couple of days until they're all done, in addition to new videos being posted on weekends as usual. I'll also gradually be adding isolated track download links to older videos as I'm able. I hope this is a good compromise, I personally prefer having the music mixed in with the video for context's sake, but I know a lot of people want isolated guitar tracks too!

Hope everyone's having a good week so far!

Youtube Cover of the Week (2/12): A Place for My Head

Posted on February 12, 2018 at 1:45 AM Comments comments (1)

After nearly eight months, I've finally gotten back into recording for my YouTube channel! The second bedroom of my apartment is currently a full-fledged practice/recording space where I can keep all my gear set up 24/7 and all I need to do to record is plug in my guitar and my laptop. This will probably be temporary, as we'll eventually need to set up my daughter's crib in here once she gets big enough for it, but for now, I'm making as much use of the space as I can! For my first video with this new setup, I decided to redo A Place for My Head, as I was never completely satisfied with the overall sound of my first cover, plus I had to make a couple small changes. I think this is a MUCH better version:

Speaking of A Place for My Head, I've made two small changes to my tab for it: One involves the transition from the first verse into the first chorus (the chorus guitars come in a little differently than I thought), and the other involves the pre-chorus, where the slide up and down the neck leading into the second chorus has changed a bit.

I plan on resuming my weekly upload schedule from here on out. I won't necessarily upload the same day every week, but it'll be sometime between Friday and Sunday every week. I may even do multiple videos in a weekend if I get stuff done fast enough. We'll see!

2/2: Misc. Guitars Update/Tabs Update

Posted on February 2, 2018 at 11:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Well guys, the photo situation is FINALLY fully resolved! Everything is back on the site for the first time in nearly 8 months! I'm sincerely sorry for how long it took to fix this, if you've been following up to this point you probably know that I didn't just go from Photobucket to Imgur, there were failed attempts at using Instagram and Facebook for photo hosting in between, and Chester's passing in July coupled with dealing with impending fatherhood (and at this point, the first six weeks of having a baby at home!) really delayed things. But it's finally done, and I can wash my hands clean of Photobucket permanently and move on to other, more exciting things!

Anyway, as with the other pages, the Misc. Guitars update brought numerous new guitars to the site:

-A red acoustic guitar that Joe was photographed with at a Meet & Greet in 2004.

-Numerous PRS guitars that Phoenix played on "Leave Out All the Rest" and "Hands Held High" between 2007 and 2010 (I previously had one "catch-all" entry for these guitars, but I finally took the time to track down as many of them as possible for individual entries).

-An Epiphone DR-200S acoustic guitar that Joe autographed along with numerous other musicians/celebrities in 2007.

-A photo of Joe with Mike's Pignose guitar.

-Phoenix used Mike's white Strat on "Shadow of the Day" at the Chester tribute show.

And here are some updates to existing guitars:

-I moved the Dean guitar that Joe painted in 2006 so it's in chronological order with everything else, instead of being at the bottom of the page.

-The Gold Tone Banjitar from the Minutes to Midnight sessions is definitely a GT-750 model.

-I previously had one entry covering both Joe and Phoenix playing the band's "communal" Takamine acoustic guitars, but this has been split into separate entries, as Phoenix actually used one of these guitars on stage recently for "Sharp Edges" at the Chester tribute show.

-The Jazzmaster photographed in the studio with its pickguard and strings off is actually a J Mascis signature model owned by Ethan Mates.

In other exciting news, Mike has released three new solo songs as the "Post Traumatic EP," and they all have guitar in them! Tabs for these songs are already up on the tabs page. I also added a "Mike Shinoda Solo" tabs directory in my master tabs directory and moved his 2005 VMA's score songs into that folder.

So...what's next? Back to the usual! I've officially resumed recording for my Youtube channel, and plan on having something posted next weekend. My guitar rig has changed quite a bit over the past few months, and I'm excited to record with some new gear for the first time! I'm also working on getting some more tabs done, as well as finishing up with guitar information/general updates to my Reanimation and The Hunting Party tabs. Photos of my gear are coming soon too!

It's been a tough few months for a multitude of reasons, but I think I'm about ready to come out the other side of things and get back to doing what I love doing. I feel good. I hope everyone is feeling good.
