11/30: Update to Brad's page/Tab updates

Posted on November 30, 2017 at 10:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Today's update brings much more positivity than the previous one!

First of all, I've switched to Imgur for photo hosting, and so far, they've been amazing (fingers crossed that it stays that way). I've updated Brad's page with new photo links, and from now on, all photos on a particular page will also be available in chronological order in a dedicated Imgur album as well (each photo on Imgur also has a short summary of the guitar model/finish and when it was used). The album for Brad's page is here: https://imgur.com/a/YkK8s

While working on this update, I've also acquired photos of two new previously-unknown guitars! One is an Ibanez RG2120X that was among many guitars that Brad smashed in 2003, and the other is an Ibanez RG470 that was briefly used as a backup guitar for baritone tunings in 2003...but also ended up being smashed! I've also discovered a LOT of new information on other guitars, so here's a quick summary!

-The Ibanez AX series guitar Brad was photographed with at one show in 2000 was actually an AX520, not a customized AX120 as I previously thought.

-The acoustic guitar Brad played on My December at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Xmas in 2000 was actually a Taylor 814ce, not a Takamine as I previously thought. Also, Brad surprisingly brought this guitar out of retirement to perform Sharp Edges at the Chester tribute show last month, so I added a second photo of it from that performance!

-I recieved confirmation that the Takamine guitars Brad and the rest of the band used for many years were Dragon series instruments, although I still don't know the exact model. I also changed the date of the guitar's last stage use from 2013 to 2014...I literally forgot that the Concert for the Philippines was a thing, lol. Whoops.

-I took a better photo of Brad's old Fernandes that I now have, since I'm working on getting photos of all my gear anyway.

-I found out that Brad actually played the customized Tim Mahoney SE on No More Sorrow for two shows in 2011, not just one like I previously thought.

-Made note that Brad's black PRS DC3 was used on Crawling at the Chester tribute show.

-Found out that the acoustic guitar Brad played for the Spotify headquarters appearance was a Gibson SJ-200, and found a better picture of it.

-Made small changes to information on various other guitars.

Lastly, on the tabs side of things, I've made updates to two songs. Multitracks for Forgotten have surfaced online, which led me to make a few small changes to strumming patterns throughout the song, and I made a small change to Sorry for Now, as I realized Guitars 5 and 6 follow the melody played by Guitar 7 at the end of the first part of the outro.

So that's a big chunk of work out of the way...but I've still got a LOT more to do to get caught up! Working on getting Mike's page updated with new links next.

7/11: Photos Update/New Brad Guitars/Talking to Myself Tab

Posted on July 11, 2017 at 1:00 AM Comments comments (0)

I finished up all of the photo hosting updates for Brad's page yesterday! Glad to have that out of the way, as it was by far the page with the most photos on it. I've uploaded all of the photos for Mike's page to Facebook, and I'll be working on updating the linked photos on his page over the next few days.

Speaking of Brad, I also added two new guitars to his page. One is his new Martin acoustic that he's been using for performances of Sharp Edges, the other is an old Les Paul copy that he smashed as part of a magazine interview/photoshoot way back in 2002 or 2003. I remember seeing those photos YEARS ago and had been searching for them for a while, as it seemed like none of the fansites had them uploaded anywhere.

I also uploaded a tab for Talking to Myself a few days ago, I just didn't post about it at the time because I knew this photo update was going to be posted soon anyway. I'm working on Nobody Can Save Me next! As for recording, I've kind of put things on hold while I deal with this photo hosting thing, along with a host of other things (taking care of my pregnant wife, working up to 15 hours a day 3 or 4 days a week, planning a vacation at the end of August, searching for a new apartment and getting ready to move in September, trying to find time to get ready for my last semester of college...). Recording, mixing, filming, and editing one song is usually a 2-day process for me now, so it's hard to fit in around everything else. I still have a few things in the works though - I know I've been avoiding anything involving acoustic guitar parts lately because I've never been able to get the sound out of my Ovation that I want, but when I visit my family I'm going to see if I can record some stuff with my brother's guitar (he has a BEAUTIFUL old Taylor jumbo acoustic that sounds incredible), and maybe finally get stuff like The Messenger, The Little Things Give You Away, A Light That Never Comes, Talking to Myself, and Castle of Glass recorded in a way that I'm happy with. We'll see!

6/14: Various Updates + Announcement!

Posted on June 14, 2017 at 11:50 PM Comments comments (1)

I've got a few things to announce today! First of all, while I'm not calling it a "Youtube cover of the week," per se, I did upload an updated cover of Lies Greed Misery over the weekend. I redid this one to fix some editing issues with my first attempt, plus I added my favorite compressor plugin in the effects chain. This was a quick one since I was busy all weekend...recording something more substantial for this weekend!

Second, some guitar updates:

-I thought Brad was carrying 3 Strats in each rig on this tour, but he's actually only carrying 2 - the Strat he has in standard tuning for One More Light/Talking to Myself also serves as his backup guitar, as evidenced by him using his Rory Gallagher Strat on some Drop D-tuned songs on the current European tour, even though they're using the A rig for this tour and he's also been seen using his pink Strat.
-As a result of the above information, I've realized that the purple Time Machine Strat and sunburst Road Worn Strat have actually not been brought back into active duty, like I previously thought. I've updated entries on those guitars to reflect this.
-Also, since Brad's using the Inca Silver Strat as his backup in the C rig, that means he's actually only using 2 of the Rory Gallagher Strats now, strangely enough.
-Brad also has a new Martin acoustic/electric that he's using for performances of Sharp Edges, but I haven't found a particularly good photo of it yet - I'll add it to the site as soon as I do!
-As I predicted, Chester did end up adding that plum-colored D'Angelico Deluxe DC to his arsenal, it's his A rig guitar now (the red Premier DC is now exclusively in the C rig).

Lastly, a rare personal announcement...while many of you have probably seen this on my various social media accounts already, I'm excited to say that my wife (who I met on the LPU) is 10 weeks pregnant with our first child! Mike Shinoda even gave us a little shout-out on Twitter earlier, which immediately blew my phone up with push notifications, haha.

6/1: Big Guitars Update!

Posted on June 1, 2017 at 3:45 PM Comments comments (0)

As promised, here's my biggest guitars update in several years! You may have seen some of the new stuff periodically added to the website over the past few days (I didn't add everything all at once), but it's officially done now. Here are some of the highlights:

-All "active touring use" guitars have been updated, and are current as of the iHeartRadio album release show on May 22nd. Some guitars have changed rigs/tunings, some are no longer in use as of this tour, and some have returned after absences. I'll admit that I'm making educated guesses on a few of the backup guitars (particularly for Brad), but I'm fairly confident that all of this information is correct.

-New Brad stuff: A Jazzmaster from the One More Light recording sessions, a new backup PRS that I'd never seen before, and a couple oddities - one of Chester's D'Angelico guitars (from rehearsals), and a random acoustic guitar from a promo performance in New York.

-New Mike stuff: Nothing! Mike's guitar arsenal doesn't seem to have changed at all for this album, other than a few guitars being moved around.

-New Chester stuff: Chester is now a D'Angelico Guitars artist, and is playing two (soon to be three, probably) of their DC models on tour for "Battle Symphony." There's also a random Tanglewood acoustic guitar he's been seen with a couple times recently.

-New Misc. Guitars stuff: "Leave Out All the Rest" is back in the set for the first time in several years, and Phoenix is now playing Mike's SG's on it! There are also new pictures of Phoenix and Joe playing Takamine acoustic guitars.

Now that this is out of the way, back to tabbing and recording. Yaaaaaay!

1/5 Update: New guitars...sort of!

Posted on January 5, 2017 at 2:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Happy New Year! I've finally done some catching up on studio photos from sessions for the band's seventh album (which is basically finished at this point, from what I know). While I haven't found any "new" guitars, I have found numerous pictures of different band members using guitars I previously hadn't seen them with - Brad with Ethan Mates' vintage Gibson SG, Mike with Brad's Custom Shop Strat, etc., so you'll see some new stuff on all four of the guitar-related pages. I also found a better photo of Brad with the "Cardboard Chaos" Strat, so that entry has been updated as well, as has a little bit of information on a few other entries. Looks like the band is sticking with the same array of guitars they used for The Hunting Party for the most part!

Anyway, had a good recording session today...right now my tentative plan is to start uploading videos again sometime the week of January 23rd. Working on some more tabs-related stuff when I'm not recording, too!
