2/2: Misc. Guitars Update/Tabs Update

Posted on February 2, 2018 at 11:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Well guys, the photo situation is FINALLY fully resolved! Everything is back on the site for the first time in nearly 8 months! I'm sincerely sorry for how long it took to fix this, if you've been following up to this point you probably know that I didn't just go from Photobucket to Imgur, there were failed attempts at using Instagram and Facebook for photo hosting in between, and Chester's passing in July coupled with dealing with impending fatherhood (and at this point, the first six weeks of having a baby at home!) really delayed things. But it's finally done, and I can wash my hands clean of Photobucket permanently and move on to other, more exciting things!

Anyway, as with the other pages, the Misc. Guitars update brought numerous new guitars to the site:

-A red acoustic guitar that Joe was photographed with at a Meet & Greet in 2004.

-Numerous PRS guitars that Phoenix played on "Leave Out All the Rest" and "Hands Held High" between 2007 and 2010 (I previously had one "catch-all" entry for these guitars, but I finally took the time to track down as many of them as possible for individual entries).

-An Epiphone DR-200S acoustic guitar that Joe autographed along with numerous other musicians/celebrities in 2007.

-A photo of Joe with Mike's Pignose guitar.

-Phoenix used Mike's white Strat on "Shadow of the Day" at the Chester tribute show.

And here are some updates to existing guitars:

-I moved the Dean guitar that Joe painted in 2006 so it's in chronological order with everything else, instead of being at the bottom of the page.

-The Gold Tone Banjitar from the Minutes to Midnight sessions is definitely a GT-750 model.

-I previously had one entry covering both Joe and Phoenix playing the band's "communal" Takamine acoustic guitars, but this has been split into separate entries, as Phoenix actually used one of these guitars on stage recently for "Sharp Edges" at the Chester tribute show.

-The Jazzmaster photographed in the studio with its pickguard and strings off is actually a J Mascis signature model owned by Ethan Mates.

In other exciting news, Mike has released three new solo songs as the "Post Traumatic EP," and they all have guitar in them! Tabs for these songs are already up on the tabs page. I also added a "Mike Shinoda Solo" tabs directory in my master tabs directory and moved his 2005 VMA's score songs into that folder.

So...what's next? Back to the usual! I've officially resumed recording for my Youtube channel, and plan on having something posted next weekend. My guitar rig has changed quite a bit over the past few months, and I'm excited to record with some new gear for the first time! I'm also working on getting some more tabs done, as well as finishing up with guitar information/general updates to my Reanimation and The Hunting Party tabs. Photos of my gear are coming soon too!

It's been a tough few months for a multitude of reasons, but I think I'm about ready to come out the other side of things and get back to doing what I love doing. I feel good. I hope everyone is feeling good.

1/11: Small-ish Update

Posted on January 11, 2018 at 1:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Hey guys, haven't quite gotten around to finishing up the Misc. page yet but I have a smaller update today:

-Added one new guitar to Brad's page, which is actually Mike's Telecaster (Brad can be seen recording part of Guilty All the Same with it in a Youtube video).

-Removed the 1978 Gibson SG from the Misc. page, changed the date of it on Brad's page to reflect it being used as far back as 2013, and moved its position on the page accordingly. I still don't have a picture of Mike playing this guitar, but I figured a picture of Brad with it was good enough to warrant taking it off the Misc. page - note that I haven't done this with Chester and the MJT Telecaster copy though, as Chester wasn't what I'd call a "primary" guitarist. Basically from now on if it's photographed with Brad or Mike, it won't be on the MIsc. page, but otherwise it might still show up there.

-Updated tabs for two songs, Rebellion and Victimized.

11/30: Update to Brad's page/Tab updates

Posted on November 30, 2017 at 10:10 AM Comments comments (1)

Today's update brings much more positivity than the previous one!

First of all, I've switched to Imgur for photo hosting, and so far, they've been amazing (fingers crossed that it stays that way). I've updated Brad's page with new photo links, and from now on, all photos on a particular page will also be available in chronological order in a dedicated Imgur album as well (each photo on Imgur also has a short summary of the guitar model/finish and when it was used). The album for Brad's page is here: https://imgur.com/a/YkK8s

While working on this update, I've also acquired photos of two new previously-unknown guitars! One is an Ibanez RG2120X that was among many guitars that Brad smashed in 2003, and the other is an Ibanez RG470 that was briefly used as a backup guitar for baritone tunings in 2003...but also ended up being smashed! I've also discovered a LOT of new information on other guitars, so here's a quick summary!

-The Ibanez AX series guitar Brad was photographed with at one show in 2000 was actually an AX520, not a customized AX120 as I previously thought.

-The acoustic guitar Brad played on My December at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Xmas in 2000 was actually a Taylor 814ce, not a Takamine as I previously thought. Also, Brad surprisingly brought this guitar out of retirement to perform Sharp Edges at the Chester tribute show last month, so I added a second photo of it from that performance!

-I recieved confirmation that the Takamine guitars Brad and the rest of the band used for many years were Dragon series instruments, although I still don't know the exact model. I also changed the date of the guitar's last stage use from 2013 to 2014...I literally forgot that the Concert for the Philippines was a thing, lol. Whoops.

-I took a better photo of Brad's old Fernandes that I now have, since I'm working on getting photos of all my gear anyway.

-I found out that Brad actually played the customized Tim Mahoney SE on No More Sorrow for two shows in 2011, not just one like I previously thought.

-Made note that Brad's black PRS DC3 was used on Crawling at the Chester tribute show.

-Found out that the acoustic guitar Brad played for the Spotify headquarters appearance was a Gibson SJ-200, and found a better picture of it.

-Made small changes to information on various other guitars.

Lastly, on the tabs side of things, I've made updates to two songs. Multitracks for Forgotten have surfaced online, which led me to make a few small changes to strumming patterns throughout the song, and I made a small change to Sorry for Now, as I realized Guitars 5 and 6 follow the melody played by Guitar 7 at the end of the first part of the outro.

So that's a big chunk of work out of the way...but I've still got a LOT more to do to get caught up! Working on getting Mike's page updated with new links next.

11/24: Tab Updates/The Future, Part II

Posted on November 24, 2017 at 9:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey guys! Haven't thrown an update your way in a while, so allow me to catch you up on everything that's been going on since July...

Tabs-wise, I've done a few things lately, I just haven't posted individual updates on here as I've done them, so here's a list:
-One More Light tabs are done! Nobody Can Save Me, Sorry for Now, Halfway Right, and Sharp Edges are all posted.
-I made a major update to Rebellion, as I re-evaluated the way I'd tabbed it previously and decided to redo everything to be in the same Drop C tuning, rather than having some parts in Drop C and some in Drop D. Daron played all of the guitars on the recording, so it only makes sense that it would all be in the same tuning anyway.
-Pretty significant update to Lost in the Echo, as I completely failed to notate the auto-gating/"chopping" effects on some of the guitar parts previously. They're all accounted for now.
-Based on the "last updated" tag on the file, I apparently updated SOMETHING in my tab for Wretches and Kings a few weeks ago, but I can't figure out what it was! I'm thinking it was probably just fixing a typo/clarifying some stuff in the description, but see if you can notice a difference I guess?

In other news, I've also quietly updated some stuff on the My Gear page. I have a new Yamaha acoustic guitar and got rid of the Ovation I had for many years. I also have a Pedaltrain pedalboard now and I've redone my effects routing considerably (my old homemade board is now used for stuff I put in the effects loop, so I actually have a two-board setup at the moment!).

As for my plans of what to do next...first of all, I really need to get the rest of my photos migrated over from Photobucket. That's my top priority with the site, it's just stupidly tedious work. I also have several photos of new guitars that will be uploaded once all of the old stuff is moved over (most notably, I have a photo of a previously-unknown guitar from way back in 2004 that I think you guys will find pretty interesting!). I've also slacked off on taking photos of all of my gear for way too long, so I'll get around to doing that as well.

As far as future tabs/covers go, my primary goals with tabs right now are the Beta State/Ryan Giles songs from LPU 13, the remaining 3 songs from the High Rise EP Chester did with Stone Temple Pilots, and the rest of the Mall soundtrack. After that, I have several years of LPU songs to catch up on, and after THAT, I'll start the monumental task of completely redoing all of my live version tabs (the system I have for them right now is really convoluted and everything is outdated by about 4 years anyway). Covers-wise, I've finally got a place set up to record at my new apartment (the biggest delay I ran into was actually unpacking after I moved - I had NO IDEA where my LP CD collection was, so I couldn't rip songs to my computer to record along with!), but only for a few weeks, as my daughter is due to be born the first week of January, and I'm pretty sure the room I currently have all my gear set up in is going to turn into a nursery! I've got a few things I'm definitely planning on doing, and since I just wrapped up tabbing the last song on One More Light today, I think tomorrow's a good day to get back into recording mode!

7/11: Photos Update/New Brad Guitars/Talking to Myself Tab

Posted on July 11, 2017 at 1:00 AM Comments comments (0)

I finished up all of the photo hosting updates for Brad's page yesterday! Glad to have that out of the way, as it was by far the page with the most photos on it. I've uploaded all of the photos for Mike's page to Facebook, and I'll be working on updating the linked photos on his page over the next few days.

Speaking of Brad, I also added two new guitars to his page. One is his new Martin acoustic that he's been using for performances of Sharp Edges, the other is an old Les Paul copy that he smashed as part of a magazine interview/photoshoot way back in 2002 or 2003. I remember seeing those photos YEARS ago and had been searching for them for a while, as it seemed like none of the fansites had them uploaded anywhere.

I also uploaded a tab for Talking to Myself a few days ago, I just didn't post about it at the time because I knew this photo update was going to be posted soon anyway. I'm working on Nobody Can Save Me next! As for recording, I've kind of put things on hold while I deal with this photo hosting thing, along with a host of other things (taking care of my pregnant wife, working up to 15 hours a day 3 or 4 days a week, planning a vacation at the end of August, searching for a new apartment and getting ready to move in September, trying to find time to get ready for my last semester of college...). Recording, mixing, filming, and editing one song is usually a 2-day process for me now, so it's hard to fit in around everything else. I still have a few things in the works though - I know I've been avoiding anything involving acoustic guitar parts lately because I've never been able to get the sound out of my Ovation that I want, but when I visit my family I'm going to see if I can record some stuff with my brother's guitar (he has a BEAUTIFUL old Taylor jumbo acoustic that sounds incredible), and maybe finally get stuff like The Messenger, The Little Things Give You Away, A Light That Never Comes, Talking to Myself, and Castle of Glass recorded in a way that I'm happy with. We'll see!
